Spanning August 12th-14th, Bonhams annual Quail Lodge Auctions will be held online. They will be part of Petersen Museum’s Online Car Week, welcome set of car events including a Concours d’Elegance finale on August 16.
Most collector-car auction houses already offered absentee bidding options and live streaming auctions as part of regular operations, the safety and travel restrictions posed by COVID-19 spurred the industry to apply creative solutions. At the Amelia Island Concours auctions this month, Bonhams has a 1971 model Mercedes-Benz 280SL up for grabs, with an older restoration and a pre-sale estimate of $90k-$110k.
Taking place this year on March 8th, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance draws nearly 250 show vehicles and legions of classic car fans every year. This year’s event will honor Roger Penske, and the featured marque is Lozier. Best of all, since its inception, this event has generated over $3.5 million in support of local and national charities.
This year at Amelia Island, Bonhams will lift the gavel on nearly 120 collector cars spanning automotive history from the dawn of motoring to the mid-2010s, including vehicles from several noted collections. Industry experts selected their favorite cars of the group, including a Porsche, Aston Martin, Jaguar, and even a prewar Bugatti.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance in Florida stands as one of the finest collector-car events in North America. This year, auction houses include RM Sotheby’s, Gooding & Company and Bonhams, plus plenty of events from the Concours D’Elegance and Porsche Club of America.
The 2020 Scottsdale Auctions boasted $226 million dollars in sales between all of the auction houses. This includes supercars, pre-war classics, and even the late Paul Walker’s car collection.
