From Stuttgart to Monterey
The Porsche Werks Reunion is Monterey Car Week’s destination for purists, gear heads, and those with an odd sense of humor. The Werks Reunion is exactly that, a reunion; members of the Stuttgart class are welcome regardless of year and condition. Maybe your car wasn’t part of the 911 clique, maybe your Boxster’s soft top is fading or has receded all together, but its still welcome in Monterey. The emphasis is on community at the Porsche Gathering, bringing together a group of like-minded enthusiasts with a common love of cars. Unlike the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the judged portion is casual, lauding cars that have been well-loved even if there’s a few specs of dust in the engine bay. Porsche aficionados are more accepting of modifications than those of other marques, so expect a strong showing of air-cooled “outlaws.”
Quantity and Quality
Though inclusive, the Gathering is anything but haphazard. Porschephiles have a reputation for somewhat fanatical attention to detail and, for the past five years, the Monterey Werks Reunion has proven that with an unparalleled Porsche pageant. Each model’s specific Car Corral boasts line after line of Porsches, with examples from every era and color palette. The autos bold enough to vie for a ribbon in one of the 20 judged categories would feel at home on any concours green.
Premier and Porsche
Porsche envy is a common affliction at the Werks Reunion. Symptoms include hyperventilation, reorganizing garage space, and a chronic desire to oversteer. Processions of 356s and displays of new Macans are among the most common causes of the illness. Research conducted by the experts at Premier Financial Services points to obtaining your own Porsche via their Simple Lease as the only cure.
