Great Autos on the Great Lakes

Following Monterey Car Week is a tall order, but the Milwaukee Concours d’Elegance meets the task admirably with an eclectic mix of vintage and classic automobiles. The Concours has been an annual feature on the shores of Lake Michigan since 2005, providing thousands of spectators with the best of automotive art, history, and engineering.

The Saturday proceeding the Concours d’Elegance brings a completely separate roster. It is over 400 show cars to Veteran’s Park for a more casual, though no less interesting, display. Called Show and Glow by the Lake, this once impromptu car show has grown into a highlight of the late summer car scene with everything from classic American muscle to the latest european exotics.

The Milwaukee Concours d’Elegance stands out from the pack of local concours with its entrance criteria. Further, this mirror the requirements of Pebble Beach and Greenwich. An emphasis on history limits entrants to those built before 1974 and bars any modifications from the original factory configuration.

If your car has been dropped, chopped, channeled, bobbed, bagged or blown, it will not be eligible for the Concours. However, Bentley owners need not worry. Racecars with a documented history of modification as well as coach-built cars like the Speed Six are exempt from this policy.

More On This Great Event

Last year’s class winners include a 1959 Mercedes-Benz 300SL roadster, 1962 Porsche 356 Speedster, and a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTE. Donald Osborne, a world-class appraiser and friend of Premier Financial Services, will be in attendance as an honorary judge.

This two-day automotive event has a gorgeous backdrop. It is nestled between the Milwaukee Yacht Club, Milwaukee Art Museum, and the largest city in Wisconsin. In the past 12 years, the Milwaukee Concours has contributed over $200,000 to local charities including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee.
