Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance Celebrates its 25thAnniversary
Founded in 1996 and now celebrating its landmark 25th anniversary, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance stands as one of the finest collector-car events in North America. Organized by Bill Warner and his team, “The Amelia,” as it has become more commonly known, runs with the tireless support of a small army of some 450 event volunteers plus a virtually countless array of exhibitors and supporters. Enjoying an uninterrupted record through the years, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance draws nearly 250 rare show vehicles and legions of classic car fans annually. Best of all, this wonderful event has generated over $3.5 million in support of the work of Community Hospice & Palliative Care, Spina Bifida of Jacksonville and other worthy local and national charities since inception.
On Sunday, March 8th, this year’s edition of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance will honor racer, team owner and business legend Roger Penske and include a special class featuring the iconic racing cars of Team Penske. Star attractions will include examples of Porsche’s monstrous 917/30 of Can Am racing fame, described by Penske’s star driver Mark Donohue in The Unfair Advantage as “…the perfect racing car.”
Dream Cars at Amelia
Other Amelia Island attractions will include the examples of the “dream cars” designed under the guidance of Harley Earl, who established GM’s renowned design studios and directed the company’s styling until his eventual retirement in 1958.
Blenheim, Ontario’s RM Auctions (now RM Sotheby’s) added a high-end collector-car auction to the growing roster of Amelia Island festivities in 1999 and stands as the official collector-car auction house in conjunction with the Concours. Several other top collector-car auction houses have successfully carved out niches in this beautiful setting, including Bonhams and Gooding and Company, the latter having staked its place at Amelia Island one decade ago in 2010.
Events at Amelia Island
Quickly following the closely watched Scottsdale auction week in January, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, auctions and events provide a fun, relaxed atmosphere and a welcome winter break for many in attendance. In addition to the auctions, a wide array of displays, driving events and seminars will combine to deliver an exciting and action-packed occasion in a beautiful setting. Among the events will be the Porsche Driving Experience, PCA (Porsche Club of America) Werks Reunion and “Penske Perfect” seminar, all scheduled for Friday, March 6. Luxury-car displays, lifestyle events, exclusive dinners and various book and merchandise offerings round out the wide array of Amelia Island celebrations and events. Members of the Premier Financial Services team will also be in attendance at Amelia Island, monitoring the auctions and ready to help our clients with their expert leasing and financing advice.
