The Best of the East

Continued family ownership and management, even now that founders Bruce and Genia Wennerstrom have passed away, has kept the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance at the very top of the east coast’s show circuit.  The format of year’s concours, the first with the younger generation of Wennerstroms at the helm, will be the same as it has in the past.

The event kicks off Friday with the Grand Tour – one part vintage rally, one part parade.  The cars entered, most of which are concours-eligible classics if not showcars themselves, will be treated to an exciting route thanks to Vintage Rallies organizers Rich and Jean Taylor.  Saturday and Sunday are two distinct events, the former being reserved for domestic cars, both pre- and post-war.  Sunday evens out the display with classes devoted to sports, touring, and competition automobiles from Europe.

The vehicles entered into the concours have already passed a gauntlet of intense scrutiny just to confirm their eligibility, but the weekend’s judging will leave no floor mat unturned.  A panel of automotive experts preside over the event, with specialist judges assigned to each class.

The Keno brothers, both well-known appraisers and enthusiasts, are this year’s Honorary Judges, along with names like Wayne Carini and Thomas duPont.  Online ticket sales have ended, but you can still get a ticket at the door.  It’s worth it just for a promenade through a field hedged with near mythical automobiles.
