Overview
The Going to the Sun Rally was founded in 2005 by Farnum Alston. There, Alston organized a 40 member vintage car rally and coordinated the first five-day journey across Montana. The rally has many entrants, as US and European drivers travel through Montana and its neighboring states. Often, drivers sometimes finding themselves in Canada! The Going to the Sun Rally is celebrating its tenth year by continuing to provide a fun and picturesque rally experience while raising money for organizations in its beloved state.
Miles of Smiles
The flight of 40 vintage automobiles will follow the Yellowstone River through Paradise Valley. In addition, they visit two magnificent national parks in one day: Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Next,tThe rally will continue into Idaho and end in Missoula, Montana. After, they will explore parts of Jackson Hole, Arco and some of the most scenic mountain ranges in the Rockies. Mechanics travel on the rally roads with participants in the event of any auto ailments. All road ready 1973 or older cars are invited to rally amongst fellow auto enthusiasts as they enjoy five days of scenic views and all inclusive food and lodging. Participating in the Going to the Sun Rally permits you to leave your worries behind. Moreover, do what rally-goers do best: drive. Whether you drive a Porsche, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo or an American classic you will find yourself in good company on your journey.
Beneficiaries
Most proceeds from the rally go toward Friends of the Association of Montana Troopers which helps to fund Montana families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. To read more about this cause, click here. In the last ten years the rally has been able to give back more than $450,000 to the community. This is through AMT and 20 other Montana based organizations. Without the gracious generosity of rally participants and sponsors, the Board of Directors wouldn’t be able to allocate donations to such beneficial causes in the Montana area.
