Cars to Watch: RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island

RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island Auction

A fitting way to end this year’s Amelia Island auctions, RM Sotheby’s is poised to sell almost 100 vintage and exotic automobiles on Saturday, March 12th.  RM Sotheby’s is the official auction of the 2016 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance and comes packing some serious cars in its docket.  A 1957 Ferrari 250 GT TDF and a Toyota 2000 GT, to name just two.  Premier’s Vice President of Sales Doug Ewing will be in attendance, along with our Southeast Sales Manager Chris Warren and Northeast Sales Manager Keith Neelans, to watch the bidding unfold.  Here are some of the cars our team of leasing experts are most interested in.

1964 Porsche 356 C 1600 SC ‘Sunroof’

Premier’s resident Porsche expert, Northeast Sales Manager Keith Neelans, is drawn to Lot 106 for its 1964 Porsche 356 C.  This car is the ultimate iteration of Porsche’s first car, handsomely equipped with an exceedingly rare electric sunroof and finished in its original Champaign Yellow.  This 356 has been painstakingly restored and still bears its original 1600 SC engine.

1963 Shelby 289 Cobra

Premier’s Southwest Sales Manager, Michelle Yancey is watching the 1963 Shelby 289 Cobra offered at Lot 179.  Carroll Shelby’s is one of the most recognizable names in motoring, and rightly so; his mixing of American power and straight-line speed with the nimble handling of a European GT resulted in the Cobra, that dominated the racetrack and captured the public eye.  The Cobra on offer has a rich history of racing as well as private use, and is presented with a stunning color combination of black over red leather.

1911 Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Silver Ghost

1911 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Lease

A former employee of Rolls-Royce, West Coast Sales Manager Juan Garcia has a soft spot for the 1911 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost.  An astonishing feat for a car over a century old, the Silver Ghost at Lot 141 still has its original engine, chassis, and body.  This 40/50 hp model was Rolls-Royce’s first large-scale production model and it cemented the marque’s reputation for reliability and refinement.  The Silver Ghost remained in production, largely unchanged, for almost 20 years.

1976 Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera

Chris Warren, our Southeast Sales Manager, has his eye on the 1976 Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera at Lot 126.  Though there are plenty of these 70s Porsches on the road, this example is particularly noteworthy- an exceptionally original PCA concours class winner.  Though turbocharged and possessed of Porsche‘s special brand of mechanical genius, this 911’s looks cannot be ignored; the aggressive stance lent by the flared fenders and whale-tail rear spoiler are well matched with the Platinum Metallic paint and black accents.

1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica LWB Coupe

1962 Ferrari Superamerica Lease

Premier’s Sales Manager for the Midwest, Dave Accorsi, has taken an interest in the rare 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica at Lot 163. Ferrari’s Superamerica and Superfast series of cars were all coachbuilt and heavily tuned for the most select clients, this coupe in particular is as powerful as it is curvaceous.  Though often overshadowed by the SWB varieties for their more sporting appeal, the long wheelbase allows this coupe a refined and luxurious interior.  Imparting, perhaps, a shred of practicality to its 4.0 liter V-12 and race-built suspension.
