Roads & Rallies Spring Rallye

This Friday, June 24th, marks the Vintage Sports Car Club of America’s annual Spring Rallye, with an extra E for elegance. Similar to its youthful cousin, the Sports Car Club of America, the VSCCA is a venerable institution that promotes the acquisition, use, and appreciation of sports cars.

R&r Twistedsisters

The Twisted Sisters are three undulating roads that meander through the heart of Texas hill country, completely free of hair metal, makeup, or football pads. Unless you’re into that stuff. Also known as the Three Sisters, Ranch Road 335, 336, and 337a form a roughly 100 mile loop that boasts the perfect mix of unspoiled vistas and craggy canyons.

R&r Route66

Not to be cliche, but you really can get your kicks on Route 66; apart from its historical significance, the abandoned super-highway harbors vast stretches of lightly-patroled pavement, perfect for a more liberal application of the accelerator.

R&r Ramshornporscherally

Rejoice, purists; just as classic Porsches are increasing in popularity and value, there arrives the Ramshorn Rally, a 5-day, 1300 mile excursion catered specifically for Stuttgart’s finest.

Of Roadtonowhere

The call of the road was a key part of the American experience for decades. The coming of the ‘popular priced’ car with the Ford Model T gave folks that lived in the country a way to more easily get to the city and those that lived in the city a more convenient way to get out to the country.

R&r 2015southwestpassage

On the 2014 Texas 1000, two rallyists from Santa Fe suggested that Jean and I organize one of our Vintage Rallies in New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. So we did. Our first Southwest Passage was so overbooked that our crew had to stay in a separate hotel when we ran out of rooms.

Of Millemiglia Atrulyincomparableexperience

There are arguably a score of excellent multi-day vintage rally and tour events held around the world each year, many held in wonderful places with terrific roads and contested by exciting and beautiful cars. However, it can be definitively declared that all the rest exist as a tribute to the greatest historic driving event of them all, the historic Mille Miglia of Italy.
