Undeniably one of the most beautiful supercars ever made, the Jaguar XJ220 was, for a brief moment in time, the world’s fastest. The XJ220 is rare, with only 280 made. A 1993 model with only 4,239 miles sold for $483,500 at RM Sotheby’s Elkhart Collection last month.
The “Elkhart Collection” is no more. RM Sotheby’s offered all of them at no reserve and brought in $44.3m. The top sale was a 1952 Ferrari 225 S Berlinetta by Vignale, which brought in $2.8m, followed by 1953 Fiat 8V Supersonic by Ghia $2.04m.
The first 1965 Shelby GT350R, a star-studded racing steed with a trophy case of documented history, sold for $3.85m at Mecum’s Indy sale this month. This is just 7 months after the “Bullitt” Mustang movie car sold for a $3.75m, breaking that record. The $3.8m GT350R was one of 36 such cars built for the track. Other GT350R models are hardly cheap dates, with selling prices around the $1m mark.
From August 13th-15, RM Sotheby’s will be hosting their Shift/Monterey Online Only Auction. Checkout the cars industry experts are most looking forward to seeing, including a Ferrari, vintage Bugatti and Jaguar.
Sir Stirling Moss was one of the sport’s greatest competitors. Moss won over 40% of the races he competed in, totaling a winning number of 212 races. He won the 1955 Mille Miglie and many races in Formula 1, all before the age of 32.

At the Amelia Island Concours auctions this month, Bonhams has a 1971 model Mercedes-Benz 280SL up for grabs, with an older restoration and a pre-sale estimate of $90k-$110k.
This year at Amelia Island, Bonhams will lift the gavel on nearly 120 collector cars spanning automotive history from the dawn of motoring to the mid-2010s, including vehicles from several noted collections. Industry experts selected their favorite cars of the group, including a Porsche, Aston Martin, Jaguar, and even a prewar Bugatti.
In a few weeks at the Amelia Island Concours d’ Elegance, Gooding & Company’s auction will offer a 75,000-mile 1994 BMW 850CSi in the stunning shade Hellrot (German for light red). Pre-sale estimates put this car between $90,000-$110,000, approximately the same price as when the car was new.
