Model Perspective: Bentley unveils two new Continental V8 models in Detroit

Two new Bentley Continental V8 models were unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 9, 2012: The new 4.0 liter, twin turbocharged V8 Continental GT coupé and GTC convertible.

According to the company, the new Bentley V8 engine features 500 bhp at 6000 rev/min, a new close-ratio 8-speed automatic transmission, propelling the car from 0 to 60 mph in less than five seconds. The car achieves a top speed of more than 180 mph.

The new V8 Continental models reach to higher levels of fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions for the luxury performance sector and are capable of travelling over 500 miles on a single tank of fuel.

Full and official figures will be released by the company sometime in early 2012.

The new V8 features high pressure direct injection, low friction bearings, thermal management, energy recuperation via the charging system, and turbo charger packaging for greater efficiency.

Both new models offer an all-wheel drive system employing an advanced Torsen differential and a 40:60 rear biased power split.
