Cars to Watch: Gooding & Company Scottsdale 2019

Gooding & Company’s Scottsdale Auction

Every year, far away from the harsh, salt-strewn north, Gooding & Company sneaks off to rust-free Arizona to offer a wide range of pristine motors. Their docket represents the triumphs and swoons of humanity’s love affair with the automobile. From the technological innovations of the Bugatti EB110 to the artistry of the Ferrari 250 GT Lusso, all facets of the collector car hobby are represented.

Subsequently, Premier’s team of leasing and automotive experts will be watching the bidding to assist their clients and look for developments in market values. Here are a few of the cars they’re focusing on.

1990 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary Edition

Lot 44‘s 1990 Lamborghini Countach has caught the attention of Premier’s West Coast Sales Manager, Juan Garcia. An eye-popping example of the Bertone wedge, the Countach was at the forefront of automotive design when it was released in 1974. Likewise, it features side strakes, wings, air-box intakes, and pop-up headlight. Further, the Countach defined the ostentatious styling that has become characteristic of the marque. To celebrate a quarter century of production, Lamborghini commisioned Horatio Pagani to redesign the bodywork. As a result, it is perhaps the fastest and best handling of the Countach line.

1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing

Michelle Yancey, our Sales Manager for the Southwest, is looking forward to the bidding on Lot 39‘s Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. At the request of American auto importer Max Hoffman, Mercedes-Benz translated their Le Mans winning W194 into a road car. Further, the resulting 300 SL was a preeminent grand tourer with a finely appointed interior and horizontally hinged “gullwing” doors. But underneath the beautiful coachwork remained the heart of a race car; the 300 SL boasted the highest top speed of its time.

1956 Porsche 356 A Speedster

Keith Neelans, East Coast Sales Manager, has his eyes on the 1956 Porsche 356 Speedster at Lot 58. Another Max Hoffman contribution, the 356 Speedster satisfied all the needs of a burgeoning field of racing privateers. It had more power and better handling than the base 356, at a fraction of the weight and price. Though these improvements came at the cost of everyday practicality, the motorsport success of this peppy four-cylinder won the hearts of automotive enthusiasts everywhere.

2005 Ferrari F430

The Giallo Modena F430 at Lot 16 is a favorite of Southeast Sales Manager Chris Warren. Even 15 years after its introduction, the F430 turns heads with its Pininfarina design and downforce-generating air intakes. In addition, this example features a number of special-order options, including carbon fiber racing seats, yellow interior accents, and matching brake calipers. Most notably, this Ferrari‘s 483bhp is governed by a rare 6-speed manual transmission.

1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2

Premier’s corporate headquarters in Woodbury, Connecticut, is watching the Lamborghini 400 GT at Lot 37. Long before the scissor doors and pop-up headlights, Lamborghini made a name for itself with a sophisticated grand tourer called the 350 GT. The 400 GT that followed was a far cry from its contemporary, the Miura, and even farther from the wide, angular track missiles the marque has become known for. The 400 GT 2+2 is classy, luxurious, and equipped with a 3.9 liter V12 more than capable of high-speed touring. This example is unrestored, showing the patina of proud and careful stewardship.
